Urban Impact: Helping Events and Festivals Work Towards Achieving Zero Waste
Public events and festivals often create a huge amount of waste.
Whether it’s a sports game, music festival or community event, when people come together lots of waste tends to be left behind. When recycled, these materials can be a valuable resource.
In response to public concern, a growing number of events are stepping up their greening efforts by recycling with Urban Impact! We provide the public access to effective means to recycle/compost at events and festivals.
Minimizing our Communities Waste Stream
Urban Impact Helps Events and Festivals Go Green
Every event and festival has special features and unique challenges and its own way of handling them. When it comes to waste reduction and recycling, festivals, events and fairs share some circumstances that are important to consider in plans for waste reduction and recycling.
At Urban Impact, we believe that encouraging recycling activity at events not only preserves natural resources and saves on landfill charges but also can improve the public’s perception of the event. Recycling in the right way promotes a positive environmental image and presents event organizers as responsible and respectful venue users.

At Urban Impact, we help events and festivals work towards achieving Zero Waste. We work in partnership with festivals, special events and fairs to implement comprehensive recycling and waste reduction programs throughout the Metro Vancouver.
We understand that special event organizers are busy with the task of organizing and managing their event, without adding recycling collection into the mix of responsibilities. That’s why we’re here to help! Our recycling experts can help events and festivals to encourage attendees to recycle and minimizing waste!
The Urban Impact Festivals and Events team will deliver up to 12 Zero Waste stations. Our stations were designed to help your event or festival move towards achieving Zero Waste by recycling Mixed Containers (bottles and cans). Paper and Cardboard and Compost (food waste).
How We Help
- The Urban Impact team will delivers up to 12 Zero Waste Stations before the event.
- We provide training so that your volunteers can help attendees choose the correct recycling container and educate attendees about zero waste.
- When the event concludes, our Zero Waste Events staff disassemble and haul away the containers, as well as all the materials diverted from the trash that were collected at the event.
At Urban Impact, we believe it is never too early to start the planning process for preventing and recycling waste for your event. Our goal is to maximize capture rates of recyclables and minimize contamination levels.
Demonstrate your commitment to our environment by using Urban Impact’s Zero Waste Stations at your events or festivals. Urban Impact makes it easy for you. Of course, each special event is different- Contact us, we’d like to discuss your event’s recycling needs.
Think about Waste Prevention
Waste prevention involves thinking about what actions will generate the least amount of waste. Beginning with pre-event planning, to day-of-event tips, and post-event evaluation, Urban Impact can help you take your event beyond just recycling to hosting an environmentally-friendly and sustainable event.
How we can Help
The Urban Impact Events and Festivals team will strategically place up to twelve Zero Waste Recycling Stations throughout your venue. Events that achieve the highest diversion rates have a committed team of green volunteers. If you supply volunteers to help attendees make the right recycling choice at the Zero Waste Stations, Urban Impact provides volunteer training handouts.
Urban Impact’s Certificate of Diversion
Your event may be eligible to receive Urban Impact’s Certificate of Diversion that outlines how much waste was diverted from the landfill.
