Urban Impact believes that showing students the fascinating subject of recycling will inspire them to reduce what they consume, recycle more and be better global and local citizens. Twice a year, we bring grade 4/5 students for school tours at our Richmond processing plant. Our tours are focused on showing kids what happens to recycling once they have placed their recycling materials in the blue box at home, or the blue box at school. We focus our attention on showing the students the five recycling steps or processes that Urban Impact provides (collection, receiving, sorting, baling and shipping). We’ve geared our tours to the Grade 4 and 5 age group- we find this age to be the most engaged, interested and passionate about all things green and environmental! This year I have 14 school tours on the roster; we had such a great interest in the tours that we decided to extend our tours into the week following Earth Day Week. At Urban Impact, we believe that with a little encouragement, it’s possible to inspire students to become excited about helping the planet! I love teaching the next generation: by establishing recycling habits at an early age today’s youth will be tomorrow’s adult recyclers!”
