Urban Impact was proud to be the Green Sponsor of the Rio Tinto Alcan Dragon Boat FestivalPosted: June 13th, 2011
Recognized as North America’s biggest and best, the 23rd annual Dragon Boat Festival in Vancouver was a celebration of our diverse and beautiful city, attracting over 100,000 people and close to 180 dragon boat teams from across the Lower Mainland and around the globe.
The Festival began on Friday, June 11 with a colourful “Eye-dotting Ceremony”, and continued with two more days of non-stop entertainment on the World Beat Stage, fabulous food and shopping, and of course, world class and amateur dragon boat racing.
During the Festival, festival attendees were guided by Green Volunteers on how to recycle Paper and Cardboard, Mixed Containers and Compost by placing them in one of Urban Impact’s twelve Zero Waste Stations. We set up systems for composting and recycling, sorted and hauled every bag in our quest to achieve diversion rates of up to 80% and help make the Festival the greenest ever!
