YVR’s Waste Wars Program wins big at ACI-NA AwardsPosted: March 16th, 2016
Kudos to Vancouver International Airport Authority’s (“YVR”) Environmental Team! The team took home top prize in the Outreach, Education and Community Involvement Category for YVR’s Waste Wars program.
YVR’s Waste Wars project was launched on July 13, 2015 and ran until August 13, 2015.
Due to the huge efforts of the YVR Environmental Team and strong participation from YVR’s partners in the programs such as Waste Wars, during the month of September 2015, YVR achieved a 53% diversion rate- the best for 2015! Additionally, during the four busiest months of 2015, YVR diverted more than 50% of waste from landfill, which is in line with their 2015 Environmental Management Plan target.
According to ACI-NA, YVR was awarded the Outreach Award for its Waste Wars project, which was designed to increase composting from airport food and beverage tenants, while reducing overall solid waste. YVR’s robust airport training and engagement program is truly first rate.
“YVR won an ACI-NA Environmental Achievement Award and took home the top prize for our Waste War engagement program. Thank you for supporting YVR in our submission and Urban Impact’s continued support in our diversion efforts. We truly appreciate it!”
