June 21, 2025 is National Indigenous Peoples Day. it is a day to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures, and remarkable contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people across Canada.

This date aligns with the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, which holds deep spiritual and cultural significance for many Indigenous communities. Since its official recognition in 1996, June 21 has been a time for Canadians to come together in the spirit of reflection, respect, and learning.

Urban Impact respectfully acknowledges our New Westminster facilities are situated on the traditional and ancestral, unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples. Urban Impact has long been known for our community engagement. We are grateful for the support, friendship, collaboration and encouragement we receive from the First Peoples, and acknowledge and respect the First Peoples on whose traditional territory our company resides. As a business, we are actively learning and wanting to build relationships with the people whose lands we are situated on.

We are committed to building respectful and meaningful relationships with Indigenous peoples, communities and partners. We are also committed to working with Indigenous communities to learn, grow and earn trust through open and honest conversations. We believe that successful Indigenous partnerships are built on a foundation of mutual respect, common goals, opportunities for employment, and an understanding of the local community.

To mark this day at our New Westminster plant, we are proud to raise an orange flag made of recyclable materials in place of our Pride installation from earlier this month. The flag will fly from June 16 for about a week as a visible reminder of the truths, histories, and voices that must never be forgotten.

We encourage our team members, partners, and community to reflect on what National Indigenous Peoples Day means to them and explore ways to honour Indigenous history on this land.
