On April 21st, Urban Impact, in support of Project Re-Bounce, picked up another load of used sporting equipment. This event marks the second collection of used sports equipment for the 2025 season. Together the teams successfully diverted used sporting equipment from the landfill across South Vancouver Island.
This event was spearheaded by Tony Gooch, an 80-year-old avid sports fan and longtime local community advocate. With vital backing from the Capital Regional District, Tony’s passion and persistence helped expand this project to fourteen participating facilities!
The goal of this initiative is to keep as much waste out of our landfills as possible while raising awareness around reuse, repurposing, and sustainable disposal. Project Re-Bounce diverts end-of-life tennis, badminton, squash, and pickleball gear away from local landfills to Metro Vancouver’s Waste-to-Energy facility, giving the equipment new life.
As a proud sponsor and partner, Urban Impact plays an important role in making sure these collections are possible. Our most valuable contribution is the dedication of our drivers like Daljit Singh. From pick-up to processing, Project Re-Bounce is powered by dedicated individuals like Tony and Daljit and by organizations working in partnership toward a greener future.
As we celebrate the success of this event, we are reminded that sustainability starts locally. It is powered by passionate and dedicated people and organizations. Urban Impact and Project Re-Bounce will continue to push for sustainability in sports. We will be supporting two tennis tournaments:
• BC Master Provincials at Jericho Tennis Club (May 24 – June 1, 2025)
• Stanley Park Open (July 4 – 20, 2025).
We’re excited to connect with even more green-minded people and facilities through these events and to keep the momentum going—on and off the court.
