At Urban Impact, we think of safety all the time! In fact, it’s our number priority in everything we do. In late summer and early fall, Urban Impact’s Safety Team conducts a refresher course for our employees on the importance of safety.
In this two-part series, we like to share our key messaging to our drivers and other team members, remind all of us on precautions we need to take, and the actions Urban Impact takes to ensure our drivers, trucks and communities stay safe.
Back to School
It’s hard to believe it’s already back to school. With children heading back to school and traffic generally getting busier, we’d like to remind you of a few safety tips to help you and our drivers stay safe.
Crosswalks and Traffic Signs
When school resumes, roads around schools and bus stops become busier and speed limits change. Children may be excited or running late, which means they don’t always follow crosswalks or traffic signals. It’s important to remind children to stop and look both ways before crossing street or driveway.
School Buses
School buses make frequent stops and create congestion during the morning and afternoon pick-up times, as does the speed limit around schools. Our large waste trucks take extra caution in these zones. Help us help you by carefully scanning for children and parents, reducing your speeds, and remember our trucks require a wide turning radii, please give us extra space behind and in front of other vehicles.
Busy Traffic
Fall brings heavier traffic as routines resume after summer. The morning commute overlaps with school drop-offs which can create crowded roads with impatient or distracted drivers. Please maintain a safe distance as our waste truck operators need to navigate in tighter spaces, slower flows and anticipate sudden moves from surrounding vehicles.
Safety is our number one priority. Our drivers have been reminded to take extra caution in school zones and keep plenty of distance between you and the next vehicle. We hope you will too!
