International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8, 2024. This a day to celebrate all women, especially those in our work and personal lives. When I reflect on the many women in my work life, I am proud to say many of them are not just work colleagues but also friends.
Workplace equality has historically been skewed against women entering the workplace, and those that do have often been subjected to pay disparity. These are important principles that we need to balance and improve as a society. The hashtag for this year’s International Women’s Day is #inspireinclusion. This resonates with me, and I believe it is supported by our companies Cultural Values.
Seven (7) of the thirteen (13) items that are part of our Cultural Values are centered around people, they include:
- Genuinely care about the people we work with; we are a flexible and fair employer
- Support staff’s health and wellness
- Recognize and reward employees for their contributions
- Have a positive, respectful, high energy, productive work place
- Endorse and support innovation and encourage an ideas work environment
- Support and encourage our staff’s personal and professional development
On March 8, I will take a moment to honor and thank the women who work at Urban Impact. From 11 AM to 1 PM, in the New West Plant Boardroom, I am hosting an open house for all women who work at Urban Impact to share their stories and discuss ways to improve our workplace.
