On June 6, 2024, Urban Impact was honored to be the winning recipient of the Innovation Award at the Safety Pinnacle Awards.   This award program is hosted by the Safety Manufacturing Alliance of British Columbia.  Each year, nominees and supporters gather to make industry connections, at a gala reception, to honour the Pinnacle Award nominees and recipients of the Safety Excellence Awards. Leading local businesses are celebrated for the steps they are taking to achieve, maintain, and grow their workplace health and safety programs.

The Award recognizes a company for innovation in Occupational Health & Safety management systems, health and safety training, wellness programs, and culture. Being recognized for this award is a testament to Urban Impact’s commitment to safety.

“It is my honour to accept this recognition and award on behalf of our 200- person team at Urban Impact.  Safety for our company has been a journey.  Over the last 5 years, we have made great progress in improving our safety culture, our procedures, training and processes.  Without the dedication of our leadership team and the entire company, we could not have qualified for this award.  To win it,  is a not only a great honour, but a testament to the progress we have made at promoting and managing our safety systems.” - Nicole Stefenelli, CEO Urban Impact

At Urban Impact, "Work safely, always,” is the first of our company‘s thirteen Cultural Values.  The Innovation Award required Urban Impact to demonstrate how we have improved and managed our safety systems through innovation.

It all begins with our goal:  Zero Incidents, Zero Accidents.

Supporting our values and this goal, Urban Impact embraces innovation in safety. Over the past few years, Urban Impact prioritized making improvements to safety performance.  Time and resources were, and continue to be, spent on training our leads to be “nimble and notice”; improve our delivery of safety training through an interactive approach to learning; dedicating resources to ensure our training and process development is clear and easy to read and learn; translating learning whenever required; active and collaborative review of all incidents and near misses; active mentorship, and educating our customers and the public.

Most recently, Urban Impact launched the “Safety from the Ground Up” campaign. Using social media to track key performance indicators through defined hashtags, #recyclesafety #recyclingitright #recyclingsafely, Urban Impact celebrates staff who showcase exemplary safety practices or make meaningful suggestions for improvement.

Urban Impact would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to the 2024 Manufacturing Safety Innovator Award finalists, CKF Inc., Silver Hills Sprouted Power and Sunrise Farms for their achievements and dedication to safety.  It is an honour to be among this group of British Columbia companies.
