Urban Impact extends our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and community of Chase Nicol. Chase, a 12-year-old boy, was was riding his bike to school when he was tragically struck and killed by the driver of a recycling truck on Wednesday, October 18 in Pitt Meadows.
This young boy’s death has deeply impacted our team and our industry. Part of our business is trucking operations. Safety of the public, our staff and our equipment is at the forefront of our minds and training, every day.
For the third year, Truth and Reconciliation Day will be recognized on September 30, 2023. On this day, we honor the children who were lost to the residential school system, as well as the survivors and the families of those affected.
Truth and Reconciliation Day focuses on bringing awareness, respect, and appreciation for our Indigenous peoples. For generations they have thrived and continue to do so despite the disadvantages they have endured. On this day, we take pause to learn about the colonial legacy of our country and the traditions of our Indigenous cultures.
As summer comes to a close, many of us will linger in the memories of family vacations, festivals, and being outside under the warmth of the sun. For many families and communities, especially in our Province, the summer of 2023 will be remembered as a time of upheaval and constant fire readiness and watch. Our hearts go out to those returning to their lives and rebuilding their communities after suffering from a wildfire season that we have never experienced.
